Environmental Initiatives
Camp Tohkomeupog
The camp plays a regular role in recycling during the operating season but actually plays a very different role in minimizing our impact:
- Camp “Tohko” uses education as part of its regular program to respect the environment. They follow the "Leave No Trace" program during hikes and retreats and they teach the importance of following trails instead of using short cuts to reduce erosion.
- Many of their regular programs revolve around the many ways each individual can minimize the impact left behind. The boys leave their camp experience as stewards of the environment.
- Tohko offers single-stream recycling, which is the recycling process of mixing paper, plastic, cans and glass in one collection bin. Two bins are available in every trash receptacle location; one bin for recyclables and one for items not accepted by the program such as general garbage, food waste, diapers and plastic bags.
