Purity Spring Resort Goes Green
Purity Spring and its businesses have maximized efforts to minimize its paper use in all departments and to recycle what has already been used.
For promotional collateral, the utmost attention is given to quantity, and efficiency has been maximized. For example, we have combined 2 brochures (Danforth Bay and The Bluffs) into one and have adjusted rates and dates in order to eliminate “dated” collateral that can become unusable.
Approximately 80% of print collateral for the Purity Spring businesses are printed using a FSC certified paper source. FSC certification is a product group from well-managed forests, controlled sources and recycled wood or fiber.
Educating Guests – Purity Spring and its businesses are participating in programs that will inform guests of its practices and why they are important and how others can make an impact as well.
Educating Staff – Purity Spring is beginning to add programs that will teach staff about the green actions they are taking, why they are important and ways to encourage others to make an impact as well.
- A portion of the lodging units, currently being refurbished, are now using energy-efficient fans. All other units will eventually be replaced.
- Purity Lake has been kept 100% free of development. Other than buildings that were built years ago, the Hoyt family has kept all development to an absolute minimal.
- Purity Resort guests have enjoyed fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking on Purity Lake since the early 1900’s. Motorized boating is restricted except for a company-owned boat which is used minimally for its guests and boy’s camp.
- High-extraction washers are used in all laundry areas at each resort.
- Purity Spring Resort uses a "guest commitment" policy where it offers a number of “reuse/recycle” options in regards to towels and bedding.
- Light bulbs have been or are currently being replaced with high efficiency lighting in one way or another throughout all businesses.
- Purity Spring Resort offers “Purity Green Weddings”. These weddings consist of ceremonies and receptions that offer minimal impact on the environment. For example, weddings held on “Purity Island” use minimal power and offer menus that use natural or organic foods that are grown locally. A number of different programs with varying degrees of “green”, are offered to the bride and groom to minimize the waste produced by large gatherings such as weddings.
“Preserving the land for the future enjoyment of our children… it is just the right thing to do.”
Edward E. Hoyt
